TRIP OVERVIEW

Manakamana Temple

The Manakamana temple, one of Nepal's most prominent Hindu temples, is located in the Gorkha district of Gandaki Province. A temple is a sacred site dedicated to Bhagwati, a Hindu goddess who is an avatar of Parvati. The name Manakamana comes from the words "Mana" which means "heart" and "kamana" which means "to wish." It is believed that a person's wishes would be granted if they are made from the heart. The temple is about 140 kilometers from Kathmandu. It lies 12 kilometers south of Gorkha town and is at a height of 1302 meters above sea level. To the north of the temple, the Manaslu - Himachali and Annapurna ranges may be seen. Trisuli and Marsyangdi river valleys can be found in the south and west, respectively.

Manakamana is a reincarnation of the then-queen of Gorkha, according to old history from the 17th century. The queen possessed divine abilities, which only her follower, Lakhan Thapa, was aware of. When the king learned that the queen was a Goddess, he died suddenly. It is believed that while digging his field, a farmer discovered a stone from which milk and blood spilled into the ground. When Lakhan Thapa performed tantric rituals to worship the stone, the flow stopped. The shrine's current location was built on this foundation. The temple's priest must be a descendant of Lakhan Thapa, according to tradition.

The temple attracts a considerable number of visitors each year. Many married couples come here to worship for their long life together, students come here to worship for their academic achievement, businessmen come here to worship for their commercial success, and so on. It has become the most popular destination for trekkers. The cable car trip is also a popular attraction for visitors. The view from the cable car is spectacular. It has become one of Nepal's most popular tourist spots. The hiking route to Manakamana Temple is gorgeous and attractive, even though it is easily accessible by cable cars. It's a four-hour hike. The hiking route is made more enjoyable and interesting by the presence of an orange grove, forests, local settlements, and a glimpse of the Trisuli River. Around the temple region, we may also enjoy spectacular views of verdant hills and valleys, terraced crops, and the Manaslu - Himachali, and Annapurna peaks.
